ThinkGeek - Cool Stuff for Geeks and Technophiles

Comment Policy

Look, I like comments just as much as the next guy, but I get kind of pissed when people just spam the comments for SEO. Now I have to be honest and say that I used to be a comment spammer myself, but after running this blog for a while I’ve realized the error of my ways and no longer spam other blogs with keyword filled names and stupid comments.

So here’s the policy:

  1. You don’t have to use your real name; I’m cool with that. But if you’re not using your real name then you better be using the name of your website or domain or some stupid nickname. I commonly leave comments as ‘devtrench’ on other blogs which I think is fine because I’m trying to build a brand and I own the domain. If you want to do that on this site, then go right ahead.
  2. But if you use a name that is obviously keyword stuffed and leave crap comments then you will be messed with. Remember, I control this site, and if you want to leave comments like ‘Wow, thanks for that. It was great stuff. Looking forward to more ;) ‘ on a few posts with [keyword(s)] name linked to http://my-spammy-keyword-mfa-site.com then I will mess with you.
  3. How will you be messed with? I don’t like to censor people, that’s not my style. In fact, I think posting your dumb ass comments reflects poorly on you, so what I like to do is change your name. That’s right, I change your name to what ever I want and you’ll be stuck in no-follow hell with weird keywords linked to your site.

All in all, you’re fine if you contribute to the online conversation we’re having. I want to know your ideas and could really give a crap if you think the post is good or not. The number one way to spot a spammer is how much they suck up.
